Minnesota has some of the nation’s worst racial disparities in school discipline. Our black students are eight times more likely to be suspended than their white peers.
And our students in pre-k are three times more likely to be suspended or expelled than K-12 students. This. Is. Not. Acceptable.
Because of educators like you, key discipline provisions that would reduce racial disparities in discipline advanced in the House Education bill. While they ultimately did not pass, it is critical to thank the legislative leaders who led on advancing these policy provisions and encourage them to continue their efforts.
